Situated not far from Goulding’s Museum and Trading Post, which was owned by his friends Harry and “Mike” Goulding, Monument Valley was another favorite target for Barry’s lens. Its Navajo name is Tse bii ndisgaii, or “valley in the rocks.” It became one of John Ford’s favorite filming locations including “Stagecoach” and “The Searchers” starring John Wayne.

Over the years, Barry shot a vast series of frames of the mesas, spires, and buttes that rise out of the majestic valley.
